Ciprofloxacin
Dosage Precautions Contraindications Side effects Overdose Storage

Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic with a wide range of action of the Group of the Fluoroquinolones. The substance was developed by the Bayer company in 1981 and 1983 patented. This group antibiotics inhibit Gyrase of bacteria and thus their DNA replication and their division. They work by bactericidal in particular against gram-negative organisms.
Because ciprofloxacin is part of the Fluorchinolonen, it could reduce the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives such as other antibiotics of this group. For the specific case of ciprofloxacin such suspicion has been not confirmed but so far. An interaction between this antibiotic and hormonal contraceptives is not mentioned in the current package insert of ciprofloxacin (as of 2006). At least two clinical studies show that ciprofloxacin does not compromise the effectiveness of birth control pills.Non-interference with hormonal contraceptives was also the reason that ciprofloxacin instead of rifampicin was issued to 4253 Student(inn)en of the University of Oxford, to prevent the spread of meningococcal meningitis.
The dosage and application of ciprofloxacin is dependent on the-to-treat disease / infection. General ciprofloxacin is administered twice daily, preferably in the form of peroral (p.o.) as a tablet. Already a one-time dose of 500 mg ciprofloxacin p.o. in tablet form is sufficient for the gonorrhea (Tripper) - therapy. There are also preparations for intravenous administration, as well as the local application as an ear and eye drops available.
Ciprofloxacin is used against bacterial infections.

Millions of different bacteria, viruses and fungi try to penetrate into our bodies every day. They live in the air, water, food or other people and animals. Not all harm humans - we need some even. Useful organisms form our skin flora, a natural shield against Krankheitserrerger. Others help us during digestion.

There are own medicines against each type of agent. Antibiotics against viruses Virustatika and fungus antifungal effect against bacteria. Ciprofloxacin works against bacteria. It is called an antibiotic from the Group of the fluoroquinolones, also Gyrase inhibitors. These antibiotics kill off the bacteria by blocking the Gyrase, one for the proliferation of major Eiweißsstoff.

Before a treatment with antibiotics should be whether the infection is bacterial really, and what exact type of bacteria the polluter is found first. On the one hand, each antibiotic against certain bacteria acts, on the other hand many bacteria are resistant (resistant), already to antibiotics because they were often misused in the past. Only if you cannot wait for the result of the determination of bacteria, because e.g. dangerous complications are expected, you might want to take an antibiotic that is effective against many different bacteria (wide spectrum antibiotic) advance.

Ciprofloxacin is used following bacterial infections: upper and lower respiratory tract, neck nose ear, eyes, genitals, stomach intestinal bile, kidney and groundable urinary tract, skin and soft tissue, bones and joints, blood poisoning, anthrax.
